"You have a training room too? Yes I would like to see that!" Ryuu exclaimed as his face lights up. He didn't think he would be able to see exercise equipment so soon! This is a pretty amazing home and their tour just started. "It's like when we all practice or when we're able to go the gym together." He may not enjoy his stage persona, but he proud of his workout plan.
Ah, a bit older than he thought, actually! He pauses in front of a pair of doors.
"You look very youthful! My apologies, I thought perhaps you would like a drink later, but I wanted to be certain of your age before I offered. So... would you like a drink later? We could take them with us into the onsen, after some exercise."
And he opens the doors to the training room. The equipment is nothing unusual; a handful of apparatuses for weight training the legs, arms and body. Without hesitation he enters in, starting to undo the cloth tying back his yukata sleeves. It's been so long since he's been able to do this!
"Yes! I would like to have a drink together after this! Being able to enjoy drinks in the onsen would be nice."
Ryuu couldn't remember the last time he had a drink or enjoy some time in the onsen. Being able to do both would be so nice and a good way to relax too. When Tonbokiri opened the doors to the training room Ryuu walked in and looked around in appreciation at the equipment in the room. Normally Ryuu had a change of clothes before he worked out.
"Um, Tonbokiri-san, do you have a change of clothes I can borrow?"
Tonbokiri, meanwhile, has already stripped down to his hakama. A change of clothes? If it will make his guest more comfortable! He has to think about it for a moment, but if memory serves...
A few minutes later, he returns with a a garish yellow shirt, and blue shorts that are more like swimming trunks. Sorry, but it's only the two of them, right?
More importantly, the two of them can have a thoroughly pleasant time. Tonbokiri is full of compliments over Tsunashi's muscles (particularly his back), and is keen to hear about his routines further. It reaffirmed that he really should see how dance fits in - peculiar but interesting.
Time flies by, but Tonbokiri has a good sense of how long he should be training for, and once the time seems right, he leads Tsunashi-dono to the bar to pick up some alcohol of his choice before hitting the onsen. For himself, Tonbokiri takes two small flasks of sake and two cups, should the young man wish to join him in drinking it later.
And then, time to relax and refresh! It is easy to tell that this is the door to the onsen even before Tonbokiri opens it, for the feeling of humidity is in the air. And once open, the warm change room is revealed, with the onsen just around the corner from it.
"Let us take our time to relax and enjoy this thoroughly. Who knows when we will have a chance for a proper bath again, let alone a drink to go with it."
Ryuu didn't mind wearing the yellow shirt and blue shorts. He appreciates that Tonbokiri could find the extra clothes for him. It's great to work out with someone again, especially someone as pleasant as Tonbokiri. He did his best not to be sheepish over his compliments. They were all so sincere and nice he didn't know how else to react! Ryuu made sure to compliment Tonbokiri on his physique too, especially his arms. They were very nice!
When the finished their workout Ryuu got a chance to experience another part of their house. He can't help getting a little excited when Tonbokiri brings out the alcohol. It's been a while since Ryuu had fun drinking with someone as enjoyable as Tonbokiri.
"I do miss being able to take a bath like this. I'm going to really enjoy being here, it's really nice Tonbokiri. I was wondering was there anything you wanted to bring back?"
"That is a good question. I have been taking back pieces of my armour, as this place won't let me take a whole outfit with me like it did my yukata. Other than that, I have already taken the most essential thing for my maintenance. So I have been thinking about bringing back some alcohol as a luxury. I can't say I drink often, however there have been several times where I have wished to share a drink and conversation with someone. And I suspect alcohol will be a rarity in the town for some time to come.
Ryuu settles into the water while he listens to Tonbokiri. "How many pieces are your armor? Yeah I don't think we can take back anything big. It's good that you could carry your yukata. I wouldn't mind having some alcohol around. It would be nice to share a drink with someone again."
Ryuu thought about what he bought back though he couldn't help brushing his fingers along the water. He still can't believe he's in an actual hot spring! "I bought back some towels, blankets, and some silverware so I can cook. It's hard trying to make food with the things that we have in town."
Speaking of the alcohol, he shifts to bring over the small wooden basin that is holding their drinks. He pours Tsunashi's choice, an Okinawan sake, first.
"Ahh, those are very practical choices! Despite how hot it is now, the seasons will change eventually, won't they. And, cooking is important." Not that he can say much about the conditions of it, as Maribelle-dono takes the brunt on that. "I shall give some thought to bringing back something like that, as well."
He offers Tsunashi-dono a cup. "For now, let us enjoy sharing this drink together, and anticipate sharing one again in the future." He raises his small cup in a the gesture for 'cheers'. "If I may ask, do you do the cooking for your housemates as well?"
"They will. I do miss when summer leaves, though fall is a very nice season too. I've lived in Tokyo for awhile and I still don't enjoy winter very much. It's still a nice season and I do like watching the snow fall. I normally plan the menu around whatever we're going to eat, but it's hard for me to keep track of time here."
Ryuu thanks him for the drink as he raises his cup in the air. "I'm looking forward to sharing another one with you too." He brings the saucer to his mouth and takes a drink, sighing happily when he finishes it off. He's missed being able to have a drink like this. "Yes, I do! I wish we had more ingredients so I can make more of our favorite foods. I do my best with what is available."
Tonbokiri also finishes his drink, and politely refills Tsunashi's before his own. He himself will sip his next cupful. The hot water will make the alcohol go to his head a bit more quickly than usual, after all.
"I am certain that whatever you can make is well-received." He smiles reassuringly, then nods, thoughtful over the rest of what he said. "A menu that matches with the seasons. I can certainly appreciate that. The seasons are each important to the Japanese people, even if some are more liked than others." He closes his eyes, reminiscing for a moment. "Mm, it makes me nostalgic for a song the men of Mikawa liked."
"Thanks! Everyone has liked my food so far, so I'm hoping that it continues." Ryuu isn't as careful to sip his next cupful. He does slow down as much as he can at the end, so he can return the favor and fill Tonbokiri's drink next. "It's something that I really looked forward to when I was back home in Okinawa. The hotel always had different seasonal dishes for our guests to enjoy."
Ryuu perks up at the mention of a song. "Really? What kind of song is it? Do you remember the words?"
If Tsunashi-dono is going to offer to top up his cup, then he has to make room... Ah, how comfortably warm this is.
Tonbokiri tilts his head in interest about the implication that Tsunashi-dono's family own a hotel in Okinawa. However the question distracts him- oh, that is right. He is a dancer, so he must have an interest in music as well.
"It was a song that the men sang while they away fighting in great battles. They longed for home, and so had this song to sing in the lonely nights. I... do remember the words."
He likes singing to himself, but purposefully singing for someone feels like something better left to one who is not a spear... And so he doesn't immediately offer to sing the words, instead taking a sip of his drink.
It's very nice to sit and drink together. Ryuu could talk for hours about all the different things that has happened at the hotel or what he learned from it too. Being an idol he has interest in music too! He sings, dances, and makes sure that their fans have a great show. Ryuu will let Tonbokiri know anything he wants. Ryuu takes another drink as he leans over in interest.
"Do you mind singing it? If you don't want to that's fine! It...it must have been hard to be so far away from home. Did the song help them with their feelings?"
Tonbokiri turns his sake cup in his fingers as he answers,
"I believe it did. Although I have little experience with music, I believe it has tremendous capability. The atmosphere around the men certainly changed depending on what song they sang.
"As for singing it..." He glances away and (unnecessarily) clears his throat as he puts down his cup. He is a little embarrassed, but also happy. It might feel like the men of Mikawa are near his side if he shares their song. "Yes. I will sing it for you."
His expression becomes calm yet distant as he sings in his rich and clear voice:
Spring is my favoured season It ‘minds me of my love Who’d come running to kiss me With sakura in her hair I pressed those petals to ‘mind me How she soft pressed ‘gainst my lips I shall return home next season And see hydrangea in her hair
Summer is my favoured season It ‘minds me of my love Who’d come running to kiss me With hydrangea in her hair I pressed those petals to ‘mind me How she deep pressed ‘gainst my lips I shall return home next season And see chrysanthemum in her hair
Autumn is my favoured season It ‘minds me of my love Who’d come running to kiss me With chrysanthemum in her hair I pressed those petals to ‘mind me How she long pressed ‘gainst my lips I shall return home next season And see camellia in her hair
Winter is my favoured season It ‘minds me of my love Who’d come running to kiss me With camellia in her hair I pressed those petals to ‘mind me How she tender pressed ‘gainst my lips I shall return home next season And see sakura in her hair
Ryuu finishes his drink while Tonbokiri sings the song. He felt the longing in the words for the men to be with their loved ones. While it was a sad song it could be quite the hopeful tune too. Ryuu smiled over at him when he finished.
"That was a nice song. I hope they got a chance to be with their loved ones again. No matter where they were able to meet."
Here or in the spirit world, it both counted. Ryuu reached for the bottle as he moved to refill Tonbokiri's drink. "Music does have the power to bring out the emotions of people. I see it all the time when we perform. Some people tell us that they were having a bad day before coming to our concert then they felt better after the performance. The power that music has is quite amazing. Did they sing that song alot?"
He returns the smile. "Thank you. I believe they did."
Tonbokiri has to sip from his cup again to make room for Tsunashi's pour, and he motions for him to hand over the bottle so that he can fill the young man's cup again.
"They sang it from time to time, while they were on the march away from home especially."
Settling back comfortably in the water, he asks, "What of Okinawa? I do not have any experience of being there and so would be pleased to hear one of your songs."
Ryuu hands Tonbokiri the bottle so he can get his refill too. His head already starting to feel light as he finishes the next one. He sat back as he thought about one of the songs they used to sing back home.
"Oh! Asadoya Yunta is really popular! Back home I would sing it every festival!"
Ryuu takes a moment to think of the words, the alcohol is starting to get to him, when he gets them.
"Oh, After working in the fields under the sixteen day old moon, the two of us alone but somehow constrained
I have dyed for you, a dark blue kimono. Please wear it with a sash as a sign of my affection."
"Is that so? Hahaha, Tsunashi-dono, I appreciate your concern, but I have existed for a very long time. I do not know what a unit song is, or what the songs of your Japan are like, but I would be pleased to hear it."
(Don't mind the fact that Warring States-era sensibilities are far different from 201X Japan?)
